Nether Stowey lies on the northern slopes of the Quantock Hills, which is designated as an area of outstanding natural beauty. This attractive, thriving and historic village is believed to date back to Anglo-Saxon times and indeed, features a mount, where once stood an 11th century Motte and Bailey castle. In more recent times it was home to the poet, Samuel Coleridge, from 1797-1800. During this time he wrote some of his most famous work, including Rime of the Ancient Mariner and Kubla Khan. Today, his former home is owned by the National Trust and open to the public.

In addition, there are a wide range of day-to-day facilities, including: a primary school, church, library, vets, hall, two stores – including a post office, two public houses, a hairdressers and butchers. The village lies approximately eight miles to the west of Bridgwater and ten miles to the north-west of Taunton. Both provide a wider range of amenities, as well as M5 motorway access and mainline rail links to the rest of the country.

This is a charming character cottage, pleasantly situated at the end of a terrace of similar properties within the centre of this ever-popular edge of Quantock Hills’ village. The accommodation is arranged over two floors, as follows. An entrance vestibule provides access to the two main reception rooms. The first of which is a good size sitting room; a room full of character featuring exposed beams, an inglenook fireplace with wood burning stove and a door leading to a turning staircase to the first floor. The second reception room runs alongside the first and leads into a third room which would make an ideal study or playroom. From here an inner hallway leads back into the sitting room or on into the kitchen/breakfast room, utility room, bathroom and outside.

The kitchen is fitted with a wide range of units, some of which have glazed doors, and roll edged worktops. An oven, hob and extractor hood are fitted, as well as an inset sink unit. There is space for a breakfast table. From here a step up and door leads out into a conservatory, in turn leading out into the garden. The utility room is fitted with additional worktop space and another sink unit. Space is provided for a washing machine and tumble dryer. On the end wall is the central heating boiler. The bathroom is fitted with a matching white suite and a built-in storage cupboard.

On the first floor, the landing (which has been fitted with a light tube) provides access to three bedrooms and a shower room. Two bedrooms are good doubles, and both fitted with built-in wardrobes. The third, is a good single – there is restricted headroom here due to sloping ceilings. The shower room comprises a three-piece suite and benefits from a Juliett-style balcony, with safety railings that can be removed; thereby assisting with moving bulky items of furniture that would be difficult to bring up the stairs.

The rear garden has been attractively landscaped, providing areas of paved patio and well stocked beds and borders. Trees of varying sizes are also planted. The garden is enclosed by walling and timber fencing.

The property is warmed by a mains gas central heating system. All external windows and doors are double glazed, excluding the front door.

Follow the A39 west from Bridgwater until reaching the village. Once off the main road and onto St Mary Street, proceed until passing two public houses and the Post Office and onto Lime Street. The property will be found on the right.
